CHOCOLATE BANANA PUFF PASTRY HEART

HEART PASTRY … that’s filled with flavors you’ll love.

If love had a flavor, it would taste exactly like this: buttery, flaky pastry wrapped around a warm hug of cinnamon-kissed bananas and rich dark chocolate. Pair it with a coffee, and start Valentine’s day right (“day” is in the name, so we should celebrate all DAY!). Whether you're wooing a special someone, celebrating Galentine’s Day, in need of a little self-love (because you deserve it), or just have too many over-ripened bananas and need another option that isn’t banana bread, this heart-shaped masterpiece is here to make your sweet tooth swoon.

Instructions

TO MAKE YOUR STUFFED PASTRY HEART
  1. Preheat your oven to 400ºF.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into four even strips.
  3. In a bowl, use the back of a fork to mash down the bananas with sugar and cinnamon until you have a lumpy liquidy mixture.
  4. Spread a line of the banana mixture down the center of each strip. Top with a line of dark chocolate chips.
  5. Brush egg wash along three edges of each strip. Fold the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing with the back of a fork.
  6. Shape two of the filled strips into loops on the baking sheet to form a heart. Lay the other two filled strips around them to add dimension.
  7. Brush all visible pastry surfaces with egg wash.
  8. Lightly grease a 10-inch cake pan. Place the greased cake pan around the pastry. Fold a piece of foil into a "V", grease it, and place it loosely around the bottom of your heart. Form the shape of the top of your heart with foil, grease it, and wrap it loosely around your pastry. Add a crumpled ball of foil into the space between the foil and the top of your cake pan. This will help maintain the heart shape while baking.
  9. Bake for 35 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
  10. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then dust with confectioners’ sugar before serving.
