CHOCOLATE SKELETON BARS

CHOCOLATE SKELETON BARS

HALLOWEEN TREATS … busting out all the quick tricks here.

The only tricks I’m into when it comes to Halloween are the ones that make recipes easier. The first trick here is to get yourself in a crafting mindset more so than a cooking one. Think of your white chocolate as paint and semi-sweet chocolate as modeling clay. Equip yourself with kitchen scissors to cut pretzels into bones and kitchen tweezers to play the most rewarding game of Operation … Skeleton Edition. Now, with your brain in the right place, scroll down and have fun with these quick, easy, mood-setting, playful treats.

TO MAKE YOUR WHITE CHOCOLATE-COVERED PRETZELS.
  1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Set aside.
  2. Pour your white chocolate chips into one of your microwave-safe bowls, and melt in the microwave for 1 - 1 1/2 minutes making sure to pause and mix them every 15 seconds. Your white chocolate chips will fully melt when you see a few lumps left. When you mix, these lumps should disappear.
  3. One by one, dip your pretzel sticks into your white chocolate. Dip. Twist. Lift. Lay each one on your wax paper-lined baking sheet making sure they don't touch the one next to it. PRO TIP. Holding the bowl at an angle and letting the white chocolate pool to one side is easiest.
  4. Save your extra white chocolate to help glue your sprinkle eyeballs on at the end of this recipe.
TO MAKE YOUR SEMI-SWEET CHOCOLATE BASE.
  1. Line your second baking sheet with wax paper. Set aside.
  2. The same way you melted your white chocolate chips, melt your semi-sweet chocolate chips. Start by pouring them into your other microwave-safe bowl, then melt in the microwave for 1 - 1 1/2 minutes making sure to pause and mix them every 15 seconds. They will be fully melted when you see only a few lumps left. When you mix, these lumps should smooth out and disappear.
  3. Spray the inside of your gingerbread man cookie cutter and then place it down on your empty wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  4. Use your mini spatula to scoop chocolate into the cookie cutter mold. DO NOT MOVE THE COOKIE CUTTER. Use your spatula to spread the chocolate into an even layer.
  5. Before your chocolate hardens move onto the "TO MAKE YOUR SKELETONS" decorating section below.
TO MAKE YOUR SKELETONS
  1. With the cookie cutter mold still on to keep all of your chocolate in place, use your kitchen scissors to cut a 1/4 round slice off the top of your marshmallow. Gently pinch the bottom of it to make your characteristic skeletal jawline/cheekbone area. Place this skull into the delineated head portion of your semi-sweet chocolate base.
  2. Cut one white chocolate pretzel into 4 even pieces. This will act as your spine. Use your kitchen tweezers to evenly space them from the neck to a little above the hip line. Use your judgment. If you need smaller pieces to fit your mold, cut them down, just make sure that they are even.
  3. To make your arms, cut 2 pretzels in even halves. Of the 4 pieces you now have, place one on each side of the spine following the line of the arms in your cookie cutter mold. Align your remaining 2 arm pieces with the ends of the ones you already placed to finish off your arms.
  4. Repeat the process you did for the arms for your legs. Add a whole white chocolate chip to the bottom of your skeleton's leg to act as a foot.
  5. Use a tiny drop of leftover white chocolate to glue your sprinkle eyeballs onto the head of your skeleton.
  6. Put your baking sheet in your freezer for five minutes. This will allow your chocolate skeleton bar to harden enough for you to more easily and effectively move it from your cookie cutter.
  7. Place your hand under the wax paper and gently press in different areas to help dislodge your chocolate bars.
