ORANGE YOU GLAD I SAID COCKTAIL? Cheers!

My husband Franklin loves to mix up cocktails. He’s gone from zero-to-hero when it comes to mixology which I find super duper exciting. To show just how proud I am, I’ve decided that when he makes especially wow-worthy cocktails, I’ll ask him to share his recipe with me and then I’ll share it with you!

When you make this one, you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s everything you want it to be—smokey, sweet, spicy, sexy looking, and above all else, perfectly balanced. Cheers (in advance)! And if it applies, ¡feliz cinco de mayo!

Instructions

TO BRULÉE YOUR BLOOD ORANGE SLICE
  1. Lay a piece of tin foil over your baking sheet.
  2. Place your blood orange slice on it.
  3. Sprinkle your sugar on your orange slice.
  4. Holding your chefs torch roughly six inches away from your orange, turn it on and move it back and forth until you see a little bubbling and touches of blackening—roughly 10 seconds.
  5. Let it sit until your are ready to garnish your drink.
TO COAT YOUR RIM
  1. Evenly mix your salt and chili powder on your plate.
  2. Rub your lime wedge around the rim of the glass you plan to drink your cocktail out of. The lime acts as an adhesive for the salt.
  3. Flip your glass upside-down effectively dipping the lime-coated rim into your salt chili mixture and gently twist it until it’s fully coated.
TO MAKE YOUR COCKTAIL
  1. Fill your cup 3/4 of the way with ice.
  2. Pour your tequila, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, blood orange juice, and fresh lime juice into it. Use your stirrer spoon to stir it 20 times.
  3. Carful not to dunk it at all, gently place your brûlée blood orange slice over your ice on your cocktail.
  4. Enjoy!
